Ye Xiangming is one of the representatives of new freehandism.
His artistic experience can be divided into three stages: He was featured by figurative realism in the early stage and started to explore abstract expressionism with his works titled “Action No. 1” in 1989. He didn’t enter a new area of exploration until 2009 when he created a piece of work “The Blues Series No. 84” to explore freehandism.
His works have been on display in many countries and regions, including Macao of China, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Finland, Austria and Basel of Switzerland.
Incorporating hieroglyphic symbols into his works, Ye Xiangming is adept at capturing the longing, self examination and feeling of loneliness of modern people in helpless social relations. His recent works tend to focus on the mysterious relationship between man and the universe. He chooses to escape from history and break the constraints of rules to explore the truth about the universe by pursuing the practice of freehandism.
